Goji Berries

Why Goji Berry?

The juicy red berry that is bursting with health giving properties!

Well it’s simple really, goji berries are extraordinarily beneficial to your health! Here’s a little back story:

Goji Berries are a bright orange-red berry that are between 1–2-cm long. They ripen from July to October and are mostly cultivated in Tibet and Mongolia where the soil is nutrient rich.

Also know as the WolfBerry and more informally, ‘the happy berry’, the Goji berry is fast becoming the health staple to have in your kitchen cupboards.

Goji Berries grow on vines and are more of a bush than a tree, when ripe the lovely little berries are extremely tender and need to be carefully picked to avoid spoiling.

The Goji Bush was first brought into the UK in 1730 by the Duke of Argyll and can grow wild in hedgerows. For some time, it was actually illegal to sell the wolfberry as it was considered an introduced species but now given its superfood status it is legally available to buy all over the UK and worldwide.

Goji Berries can be brewed into tea, turned into goji juice or more commonly, can be dried and eaten like raisins. They are usually cooked before eating, check out our recipe page for some ideas. There is also a goji beer available in china which we eagerly anticipate!

The Goji berry contains a large percentage of nutrients such as carbohydrates, protein, and fibre with a calorie value of about 370 per 100g serving! See our page on goji berry health benefits to learn more!
